Creating 3D artwork without access to 3D software has ever been an issue. Therefore, I utilised Illustrator's Actions Panel to create some actions that could transform flat objects to the correct orientation for isometric artwork.
"You can achieve an isometric view, by squashing, skewing and rotating flat objects."
After creating each plane of the 3D object, I applied the Illustrator actions to align them across the correct axis, then worked through the details manually.
This technique can then be applied to any flat artwork to create detailed isometric scenes without utlising 3D tools. This is useful to help eliminate render times and other quirks of 3D software in situations when only one angle of an object is required.
